If you step through the doors of our Christchurch warehouse here at F.C. Hancox what will you see? Foam, foam, foam! It could be large blocks of grey, sheets of pink and coral, stacks of multi-coloured chip foam, creams, greens and more. Each of these have their own properties and best uses and will soon be transformed through our foam cut to size service into the shapes and forms ordered by our customers. Then, they’ll be on their way to become all kinds of items from new sofa seats to dog beds, futon mattresses or mattresses for camper vans.

What is foam?

Foam is such a well-known product, used in thousands of ways worldwide, and we probably give little thought to how it’s made. If you look up the word ‘foam’ in a dictionary, or online, you will see it simply described as a mass of bubbles. It could be foam on the surf of the sea or formed in soapy water. Foams used in industrial applications are created by forcing gas into polymers, such as rubber, synthetic rubber, latex or polyurethane. Different foams are made by mixing these polymers into a liquid. Varying amounts of gas are forced into this liquid, creating bubbles, or cells, to produce foams at different densities.

Types of foam at F.C. Hancox

We stock many different foams so we can provide a great service to our customers. Here’s a rainbow of our foams:

CMF Foams – our range of general-purpose foams used for seating, including value foam. These come in blues and whites.

CMB Foams – these are chip foams, made up of the offcuts from products cut from larger blocks of foam. A budget choice, they are firm foams suitable for mats, seating and kneelers and are multi-coloured.

Reflex Foams – luxury foams that are a less expensive choice than memory foam. Mattresses, chair cushions, sofa seating are all good uses of this high-density foam and come in white, grey, coral and pink.

Vasco 50 – our high-quality memory foam, for mattresses and seating, especially where support is required. Its density makes it a great choice for allergy sufferers. One colour – white.

Calipore – Another white foam that is for outdoor use, from garden cushions to marine applications. Its open structure allows moisture to pass through and has antibacterial properties.

Foam cut to size for the perfect project

When our staff walk into work each morning, they have no idea of the orders that await them. They could be cutting a simple sofa cushion or a shape they haven’t come across before.  They are experts at what they do which is what makes our foam cut to size service so popular. So, how do you order your perfect foam?

• Select the shape nearest to the shape you need – don’t worry if it’s not exactly the same at this stage.
• Insert dimensions – Either metric or imperial. If you are replacing existing foam, use that as a template. If you’re unsure how to measure your foam, here’s a handy guide: How to Measure Foam
• Select your foam – There are descriptions of each foam, if you are uncertain, then get in touch, we’ll be happy to help.
• Instant quote – You will now see an instant quote, and when you’re ordering online, everyone gets trade prices!
• Additions – You will have an option to add stockinette or order other supplies.
• You can change things at any point.
• Comments – You can add comments and additional instructions.

Once you are happy you can confirm your order, and your foam will soon be on its way.

Mix and match

Have you heard of ‘lamination’ in foam? This is a great option and something that we do often here at F.C. Hancox, it really is foam, foam, foam!

Lamination is where one or more sheets or pieces of foam are adhered to each other. Lamination of foam is a great choice when ordering foam for seating. You can have a layer of memory foam adhered to a firmer foam to create your own personal comfort.

Choose the two different foams and the size of each piece and ask us to laminate them – simple!

Once your foam is cut we’ll package it and send it on its way on our own delivery van. We deliver all over the country and our charges are very competitive. Your new foam will soon be with you, in fact we aim for five working days. And all those offcuts? They’re not wasted, they’re packaged up and sent to be recycled into new chip foams.
