What Are Upholstery Foam Sheet
Foam is often supplied in large blocks from which different shapes and sizes can be cut. With a sheet of foam, it makes it easier to buy a very narrow piece of foam. Foam sheets are available in sizes ¼”/.25cm to 5″/17.5cm deep and we have sheets up to 94″ long and 44″ wide.
Our foam sheets range from soft to firm and include sheets in memory foam and Reflex foams. We supply foam sheets in four types with grades available within each type.

- What will the foam be used for? – Foam is a versatile product and upholstery foam sheets can be used for all manner of seating, cushions, back support, headboards, and more.
- Who will be using the foam item? – Matching foam to the end user will ensure their ultimate comfort. For example, a firm foam with a memory foam laminated topper will provide superb comfort and support on a favourite chair.
- What will be the frequency of use? – A hard-working chip foam will be a great choice for a foam that is in constant use, such as a public house or restaurant.
It is important with any upholstery project that the upholstery foam sheets that you choose are fire retardant. All foams supplied by F.C. Hancox comply with the relevant requirements of the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulation 1988. The only exception to this is our Calipore outdoor foam. - Firm – CMF – High quality firm seating in four grades
- Very firm – CMB – We have two grades CMB 6, a very firm foam, and CMB 8 and extra firm foam
- Also, Vasco 50 memory foam – a mid-grade foam that is soft to touch

Cut-to-Size Upholstery Foam Sheets
Ordering your foam sheets couldn’t be easier. You have two options.
To order complete sheets
If you need to order complete sheets, visit the foam sheets page Foam Sheets select your foam type, click on the ‘Select Options’ tab, choose an option. Here you can select the size of sheet you need. Next, choose the number of sheets you wish to order, click ‘Add’ and your order will go to the Basket.
To order foam cut to size
On the Foam-cut-to-size page simply:
- Click on the shape nearest to your requirements
- Complete the dimensions you need using the diagram to guide you. You may choose imperial or metric measurements.
- Select your foam type
- Add polyester wrap if desired
- Place your order

- What density foam is best for upholstery? – This depends upon the end use. Dense foam is hard-wearing and long-lasting, so ideal for frequent heavy use. A very firm foam may not be what people want for a sofa.
- Can I cut foam sheets myself? – Yes, but it isn’t easy to get the straight edges achieved by the precision cutting machines used by F.C. Hancox.
- Are your upholstery foam sheets fire retardant? Yes, all our foams meet the requirements of the Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulation 1988 apart from our Calipore foam, which is for outdoor use only.
- How thick should sofa foam be? This depends upon the sofa type and design. Generally, a sofa cushion ranges from four to eight inches (10cm-20cm).
