Piano Bench Cushion Foam

People gain immense pleasure from playing the piano, so it makes sense that when doing so they are sitting comfortably. For optimum comfort, it is a good idea to have good-quality piano bench cushion foam. Whilst there are many such seats on the market, there may come a time when the cushion has become worn and uncomfortable. If the bench itself remains in good condition, then it makes sense to simply replace the piano bench cushion foam.

If this is the case with you, you will now have an opportunity to make the seat exactly to your comfort and requirements. When playing the piano, it is important to hold good posture. You also need your arm and elbow to move freely. To achieve this your piano bench needs to be the correct height for you. The finished height of the seat needs to be taken into consideration when replacing the piano bench cushion foam. The standard height of a piano bench generally falls between eighteen and twenty-two inches, so the foam should be cut accordingly. Having new foam is an opportunity to alter the height as you can have foam cut deeper and have a firmer foam.

It is easy to replace the foam with F.C. Hancox’s foam cut to size service. You simply remove the existing foam from its cover, take measurements, and complete the online form. You can use your existing cover, or have a new one made, allowing full customisation.

Selecting the foam will be a personal choice. We have several foams that are suitable for piano benches. Our CMF Foams would be a great choice, especially the higher density ones CMF35, CMF38 or CMF50. These offer great support in thinner thicknesses. We do also offer Reflex and memory foams, these could be used in addition to a thinner piece of CMF35 to add an extra layer of comfort, but would not be advisable alone in any thickness under 4”. There are CMF foams which range from firm chair foams to softer, general-purpose foam. Then there are Reflex and Memory foams. These latter ones cost more but are the ultimate in comfort, moulding to your shape and then returning to its original form when not in use. These foams offer great comfort and support.
