Most of us have a favourite seat on our sofas at home, the one we always head for to relax, watch TV, read, or craft. Over time the sofa foam inserts lose their shape and begin to sag and are less comfortable. The sofa itself is likely still in good condition, so the solution is to buy new sofa foam inserts.
If you are on the lookout for high quality foam for sofas that will restore a sofa or chair back to its original comfort and want sofa foam cut to size, then you are in the right place. F.C. Hancox has been working in the upholstery business for over sixty-five years and is the go-to place for all types of foam cut to size. With a range of superb foams to choose from, your sofa cushions will not only be restored but could be even better.
There are many great reasons to buy replacement sofa foam. Firstly, expense. It doesn’t make sense to buy a brand-new sofa simply because of sagging cushions, especially if the sofa is in otherwise good condition. Not only is replacing the sofa foam much less expensive than getting a new sofa, but it is also an opportunity to upgrade the sofa foam inserts to a foam that best suits your individual comfort. This is easy to do with sofa foam cut to size from F.C. Hancox.
We can cut all our foams to any size or shape ensuring the perfect fit into your cushion covers. This is because our highly experienced technicians use state-of-the-art cutting technology. By choosing us, you have the option of having laminated foam for your new sofa foam pads. This is where you have different types of foam glued – laminated – together. For, example you could have a medium firm foam topped with a layer of ultra-comfortable memory foam.
You can choose different foam for the cushion back than the one for the seat pad. By having replacement sofa cushions cut to size, not only are you extending the life of your existing sofa but can improve its comfort and support.
Most of F.C. Hancox’s range of quality foams can be used for sofa foam. The most popular, and one that we recommend, is Reflex foam. But the choice of foam is down to your personal preference. We stock foams from high-density soft foams, medium foams to very firm types. All can be used for replacement sofa foam.
Reflex foam is the most popular choice of foam for sofa cushions, especially for sofa seat bases. Offering superb durability and support this luxury foam bounces back into shape after use. Reflex foam is a dense, medium to firm foam and we stock four different grades to choose from.
Our Reflex Foam options
Reflex 500 – A high density sofa foam. This superb medium-soft foam provides comfort and support.
Reflex 500 Soft – A luxury soft foam for sofas and easy chairs, that has gentle bounce
Reflex 400H – The perfect medium to firm sofa foam. This mattress grade foam offers excellent comfort and support.
Reflex 300 – When seeking replacement sofa foam, it’s not only seating cushions that sag and become uncomfortable. Reflex 300 is a soft, quality foam ideal for sofa foam inserts for back cushions.
Our Reflex foams may cost a little more than standard foams, but they are durable, retain their shape well, and make an excellent foam for sofas.
Whilst our Vasco 50 memory foam is a high-quality product, we do not recommend that it is used for a complete sofa foam pad. Instead, we suggest that it is better used for seat backs and for the seat cushion as a layer on top of a base pad. This is achieved through a process called lamination. For this you choose a base, which can be any of our foams from very firm chip foam to Reflex, and we glue the two together, and as part of our sofa foam cut to size service, lamination of two foams is free of charge.
The amount of memory foam you use is up to you and we have five sheet thicknesses available 1”, 2”, 3”, 4” and 5”. By using lamination, you can get the best of both worlds of strength and comfort in a firmer base with a luxury memory foam top.
There are many memory foams on the market, however, F.C. Hancox chooses Vasco 50. You can find out why in our article here: Memory Foam Types & Why We Choose Vasco 50
Other foams suitable for replacement sofa foam cut to size.
Whilst we recommend Reflex foam for sofa cushion seat pads, we stock a wide range of alternative foams that can make excellent sofa foam cushion pads, especially if you prefer a firmer seat.
For a firm sofa foam, you could choose either CMF 38 or CMF 35H, both are suitable for firm seating, and our CMF 30H is a great value foam to choose for foam cushion backs.
If you want a very firm sofa foam, then CMB6 Chip foam is ideal, especially for heavy use. Additionally, CMF50 is a great general-purpose hard foam where firmness is important.
All these foams can be laminated, so you could choose a firm foam with a layer of memory foam. This is the beauty of sofa foam cut to size from F.C. Hancox, it can be made bespoke to match your own comfort requirements.
You will have no doubt at some time been into a sofa showroom. When choosing a new sofa, you don’t just look at the style, but you sit on each, testing for comfort and if it suits you. It’s no different when choosing replacement sofa foam. You will want what makes you the most comfortable. Doming – You can ‘dome’ your cushion. This is where an extra piece of foam is added either inside the main foam pad if you are ordering a single foam type, or between the laminated layers.
Polyester wrap and stockinette – For extra comfort, you can add polyester wrap. This is a polyester fibre that is glued to the foam and something we recommend, and we have several thicknesses to choose from. Polyester wrap can be added add when ordering your foam.
